Week 5 Milfoil Harvesting Update: Upper Lake

On July 11, the milfoil crew moved to the Upper Lake to continue clearing a site that has been an ongoing focus–the shoreline south of Indian Point. This site has had the highest milfoil density of any site on the Upper Lake. Because of prevailing winds and water currents, this bed has been a source of fragments that have spread milfoil to other parts of the lake. The crew pushed forward toward Buoy 4 on the milfoil hazard perimeter line, harvesting 149 bags (3,725 pounds). Week 5 saw an important milestone. The Indian Point site has been brought under control! Attention can shift to another priority area–the eastern shoreline of the South Inlet basin.
